Moving - Packing Materials And Packing Tips
It pays off in the long-term to invest in
the best packing materials. You can rent boxes, packing tape and bubble
wrap from truck rental companies or moving companies. Add
crumpled paper, blankets, and pillows to your packing supplies. Clothing
can act as a buffer between broken objects. Pack with a plan.
Packing Tips:
- You should have the following supplies for packing:
bubble wrap, paper, markers, bubble wrap, newspapers, tape, scissors, and
a tape-measure.
- Limit them to 50 lb or less. Place
heavier items in smaller boxes, and lighter items inside large boxes.
- Non-breakables should be packed tightly in smaller
boxes to ensure they aren't too heavy.
- Wrap items in clean newspapers and use bubble wrap
as padding
- Use lots of bubble wrap to parcel tape breakables in large
plastic storage bins.
- You can rent furniture pads.
- You can mark your boxes by room to make sure you
know where everything is. You can use color coding, or a numbering system such
as blue stickers to mark your son's bedroom and the number 1 for kitchen
supplies.
- Wrap fragile items with towels or blankets.
- Write "FRAGILE!" on any breakables, and
stack them on top.
- Buy boxes that are specifically made for specific
household items like wardrobe boxes.
- Audio-video equipment should be packed in its
original box. Tighten
the transit screws and label cables. Tape the removed screws to the
object they were taken from.
- Books should be packed tightly in small boxes. Sprinkle
talcum powder on the pages to make them smell fresh. Wrap the book in
plastic before packing. The books can be kept for up to two months to get
rid of the musty odor.
- Before you move, clean your rugs and draperies and
wrap them up.
- Make sure to keep medicines and other medications
safe.
- All valuables should be kept with you
- You should check with your local U.S. Department of
Agriculture to find out the regulations for moving plants between states.
Some states have restrictions to stop pests or bugs that could cause
damage to cash crops.
A good packing technique and the right
materials will make it easier to pack for a move.
